About Us

A Message From

Our President

Greetings,

During this term we will focus on: increasing membership, attracting recent graduates, establishing an educational curriculum that focuses on issues that can be used toward helping the community, increasing the amount awarded for each scholarship, and adding an awards banquet to acknowledge healthcare leaders in the community.

The Little Rock Black Nurses Association of Arkansas (LRBNAA) consist of nursing students, Licensed Practical Nurses, Registered Nurses, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, educators, as well those who are doctorally prepared. Founded in 1980, we are a chapter of the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA). We serve as mentors and provide scholarships to nursing students, as well as collaborate with other organizations to provide health related education. We strongly support national’s mission: “to represent and provide a forum for Black nurses to advocate and implement strategies to ensure access to the highest quality of healthcare for persons of color.”

I would like to thank all of you for taking time to visit our website. I would also encourage you to follow us on Instagram and Facebook for current and up-to-date information. If you have any questions or comments, we would love to hear your feedback.

“You are where you are today because you stand on somebody’s shoulders. And wherever you are heading, you cannot get there by yourself. If you stand on the shoulders of others, you have a reciprocal responsibility to live your life so that others may stand on your shoulders. It’s the quid pro quo of life. We exist temporarily through what we take, but we live forever through what we give.”- Vernon Jordan

President

Little Rock Black Nurses Association of Arkansas

Whatever adversely affects BLACK PEOPLE, wherever they may be, whoever they may be, affects us all.

Dr. Lauranne Sams, NBNA Founding President

Founded April 1980, the Little Rock Black Nurses Association of Arkansas (LRBNAA), Inc. was originally known as the Little Rock Black Nurses Association Inc. Organized by nurses who wanted to make a difference, Mrs. Jacquelyn Jones-Gibson, founder and Mrs. Carolyn Smedley, co-founder, both felt that Little Rock had enough Black nurses to unite and assemble their expertise and resources to alleviate the disparity of health problems found within Black communities.

LRBNAA is a non-profit organization and an active chapter of the National Black Nurses Association. It is the philosophy of LRBNAA that health care delivery to all Americans should be an orderly process, therefore, we are established to investigate and define the health care needs of Blacks and other minorities of Arkansas.

LRBNAA MISSION: The mission of the Little Rock Black Nurses Association of Arkansas is to decrease health disparities, improve the quality of life and health within the local community, and to diversify the nursing workforce.
